Season's Greetings from PSAC

Season's greetings, sisters and brothers.

As we near the end of 2012, we have so much to look back on and be proud of.

In the Prairie Region, we secured workers rights through organizing victories at the University of Winnipeg, Brandon University and the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resources Development. We brought together activists from across the region to learn and strategize around issues relating to Indigenous peoples, women and health and safety, to name a few. And we stood together in solidarity at two separate National Days of Action held in our communities to send a clear message that We Are All Affected by cuts to federal services.

Nationally, delegates to PSAC's National Triennial Convention invested in the future of our union by passing a resolution to create regional Young Workers Committees. We held steward assemblies across the country to help build skills, share information and strengthen steward networks. And the labour headquarters in Haiti officially opened in March, after being destroyed by the January 2010 earthquake and rebuilt with the help of PSAC and other unions.

Needless to say, it's been a busy year, but even tireless activists need a break. I encourage you to make the most of what's left of 2012 by spending time with loved ones and making time for rest and relaxation.

On behalf of the Prairie Region Council, I wish you and your family all the best this holiday season. I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year.

In solidarity,

Marianne Hladun
