Have you ever been asked, “What has the union done for us?” As union activists, we know how much we benefit from our collective agreements, but not everyone knows how much we’ve fought for and the gains we’ve made in the past.
Based on feedback and suggestions from PSAC members and local leaders across the Prairies, we’re moving forward with a video project to put faces to our members and give an outlet to share our stories and successes from the past. This will be an important resource for us to help all members learn about our history and build solidarity.
In order to produce the most effective and comprehensive videos, we need your help to track down the stories.
Some examples of stories we’re looking for may include, but are not limited to:
- A situation where you required something that wasn’t in the collective agreement at the time, but has since benefited you and others in the workplace (Ex: maternity leave, family leave, volunteer leave, etc.)
- A personal or workplace situation where the assistance of your union made a difference in your personal/family life
- A time when sick leave was desperately needed or used in serious circumstances
- A father who has taken advantage of paternity leave
- A defining moment in your life that made you see the importance of your union (Ex: a major strike within PSAC’s history and the experience being on the picket line, etc.)
Current and retired PSAC members are welcome. Please send names, contact information and a brief synopsis of the story to Jeffrey Vallis by June 28, 2013, so we have time to coordinate interviews and schedule production. We will follow up for more details.
