Human Rights Committee - Asian Heritage Month

Dear PSAC members,

We hope you are all taking care and staying healthy during this Pandemic.

The Winnipeg And Area Human Rights Committee would like to welcome you to the opportunity to celebrate Asian Heritage during the month of May.  The definition of "Asian" includes many different peoples and traditions such as those originating in East Asia (China, South Korea and Japan), South Asia (Bhutan, India, and Pakistan), Central Asia (Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), Southeast Asia (Brunei Darussalam, Philippines and Thailand) and Western Asia (Armenia, Bahrain, and Syria).  The list of countries is by no means exhaustive rather an intriguing look at the diversity of what lands and cultures are considered Asian.

Please take the opportunity to read Deanna Ng’s wonderful essay on the origin of Asian Heritage Month and her personal experiences of her culture and traditions.  Thanks to Deanna for her contribution.

Deanna has made up some fun and interesting questions at the end of her essay.  We invite you to share your experiences by sending your answers to us at winnipeghrc@gmail.com

To celebrate Asian Heritage Month virtually, a webinar with three inspirational speakers and a chance to meet our PSAC Prairies REVP, Marianne Hladun is being organised on Tuesday, May 26 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.  Stay tuned for more details!!!

In Solidarity,

Winnipeg And Area Human Rights Committee
