Did you receive a flyer in the mail?
PSAC Prairies members were all mailed a flyer with an urgent update about the upcoming telephone town hall and multi-local meetings.
Please discuss this information with other members in your Local to ensure everyone is aware of the issues and able to participate in these important activities if they choose to.
The information can be found below on this page, and the original flyer is attached below in PDF format.
Take A Stand for Sick Leave
The federal government wants to introduce a short-term disability plan, to replace the current sick leave system, with the new system to be in place by July 2016.
Any concession is a threat to our hard-earned rights and benefits and will undoubtedly set the tone for future bargaining with separate employers and those that are provincially and municipally legislated. In other words, we are all affected by concession bargaining.
To ensure our members have the facts and understand how this will impact their work and rights, PSAC Prairie Region is holding a live and interactive telephone town hall on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
To participate, all you have to do is answer the phone when we call starting at 6:30 p.m. (AB/SK) and 7:30 p.m. (MB). If we don’t have your phone number on file, call your regional office to add your number to the call list and ensure you receive the call on April 30.
While the employer may claim that this new strategy is about employee wellness, it’s really about restricting access to leave, reducing the number of sick leave and disability claims, and contracting-out the administration of sick leave and disability insurance.
Members would see their sick leave restricted, controlled, and contracted out. They would be pushed back to work early, or forced on to long-term disability. And they would be harassed by third-party insurance providers.
We believe that there is a better way forward on sick leave.
Multi-Local Meetings
PSAC will hold multi-local meetings at regional offices throughout May and June to provide information on collective bargaining and strategies.
All members from all employers are invited to attend and provide feedback in the ongoing fight back and share ideas for what we can do together to combat concessions and cuts to public services.
For members outside of the regional office areas, we will host an online webinar to deliver the same messaging and allow for a two-way conversation.
We will also be using the webinar format to reach members across the region on an ongoing basis. These webinars will provide educational opportunities on important issues and ensure we maintain the momentum from our meetings throughout bargaining and into the 2015 federal election.
Members tell us they are interested in engaging with their union, but need it to be accessible and convenient. Webinars and telephone town halls suit these needs and allow us to reach more members throughout the Prairies.
For specific dates and more information on the multi-local meetings and webinars, please contact your regional office or check back soon.
Update our Address Book
With the ongoing cuts to public services, attacks on unions and upcoming bargaining, it’s imperative that we have updated contact information for all of our members to allow us to share important updates that impact your jobs and your lives.
Talk to your Local Executive or Shop Steward about the One-to-One membership campaign. Make sure you fill out a card with your updated contact information. Additionally, you can create an account in the PSAC website member portal and update your information at psacunion.ca.
