Kudos for Robson
Re: “Omnitrax not solely to blame for Churchill debacle,” Ian Robson, Dec. 20.
Ian Robson is to be commended for so ably laying out the failures, past and present, of the federal government in regards to Churchill. And he is absolutely correct that the ultimate solution will be found by “working with northern Manitoba First Nations and nationalizing both the line and the port facilities to restore the Port of Churchill.”
I would only add that the provincial government has a role to play, which it has not lived up to as of today. Premier Pallister has a chance to change that. He should act now to institute a fuel subsidy to offset the exorbitant gasoline prices that northern communities are facing, and sit down with all the partners in Churchill to help develop an economic plan that includes fixing the rail line and re-opening the valuable Port of Churchill for business again. Making Churchill whole again will take action and support from all levels of government. Thank you to Ian Robson for the excellent column.
