Not Backing Down

Any concession is a threat to our hard-earned rights and benefits and will undoubtedly set the tone for future bargaining with separate employers and those that are provincially and municipally legislated. The following flow charts are meant to assist members in understanding how the bargaining process has changed due to Bill C-4, especially with respect to essential services. Each chart follows the same template but is marked with an expiry date unique to the corresponding collective agreement. These charts were developed for the National Bargaining Conference and are also being distributed at multi-local meetings throughout the Prairies.

Did you receive an email notice recently promoting the Workplace Wellness and Productivity Strategy for federal government employees? This notice promoted a new employer strategy for managing sick leave and long-term disability across the federal public service, but it failed to mention one very important fact: this new strategy has not been negotiated with your union.

The Conservative government wants to strip away sick leave rights and is thinking of contracting out the management of the sick leave system. We say that unless this government wants to talk about improving what we already have, we aren’t interested.
