On August 6, we embarked on an 18-day road trip from Edmonton to Winnipeg with one purpose: to collect as many stories as possible from PSAC members throughout the Prairie Region.
In a matter of weeks, we interviewed 42 people in eight different cities across three provinces, racked up 2,800 kilometers in mileage, and collected over 2,500 minutes of footage.
This is one of the most exciting projects we’ve undertaken since the “People Behind the Services” campaign in 2008. That popular campaign put faces to the services we provide for Canadians every day. For this project, we’re not only putting faces to the work we do, but the experiences we’ve had and shared.
Another distinction is that this project isn’t about any one topic, it’s about a variety of topics and themes, and the resulting videos will be released at varying intervals over the next year in accordance with related events or celebrations.
The best part is –– it’s uniquely prairies.
We want to preserve our stories and be able to share them with current and future members, as a reminder of who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going. The project showcases the power of collective bargaining, the importance of human rights, the reason we do what we do, and so much more.
Stay tuned for a short preview of the project to be released on Labour Day on the PSAC Prairie Region website and be sure to sign up on the Prairies website to receive the e-newsletter for updates on videos as they’re released.
