September 15 Day of Action Event Listing

September 15, 2012 is PSAC's National Day of Action with special events happening throughout the Prairie Region and across the country to highlight the We Are ALL Affected campaign.

Join community members, labour organizations, public service workers and their families for a national day of action to protest cuts made to  federal responsibilities such as food inspection, Old Age Security, the environment, parks, health care, search and rescue, assistance to our veterans, border security and transportation safety.   

  • Winnipeg, MB - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Memorial Park, corner of Broadway and York)

There will be local entertainment, face painting for the kids and free refreshments. Sign the 100 ft. banner to let Steven Harper know how cuts to public services have affected you and your community. Robyn Benson, PSAC National President, will be speaking on the impact of these cuts and the importance of protecting public services for ALL Canadians.   • Saskatoon, SK - 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (Nutana Legion Hall, 3021 Louise St.)

Pancakes, sausages, coffee tea and juice will be served for a minimal fee of $2.00 per person. All proceeds will be given to the Saskatoon United Way (seniors and children under 12 are free). This fun, family-friendly event will include games for children, entertainment by the Raging Grannies and guest speakers. Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region, will be speaking on the impact of these cuts and the importance of protecting public services for ALL Canadians, with greetings and remarks from Andrea Howe of the United Way.

  • Prince Albert, SK - 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (John E. McDonald Memorial Building, 3601 5 Avenue East)

PSAC members will be barbecuing burgers and hotdogs for all attendees. Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region, will be speaking on the impact of these cuts and the importance of protecting public services for ALL Canadians, with greetings from an Elder who will speak about how the job cuts impact Aboriginal peoples.

  • Calgary, AB - 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Sandy Beach Park, Site #3, View Map)

Family day of action including family activities such as three-legged races, potato sac races and scavenger hunt. Also, children's activities such as face-painting, tattoos, and colouring centre. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, juice and pop will be served.

  • Edmonton, AB - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Hawrelak Park, 9930 Groat Road NW, Site #4, View Map)

Family day of action with lunch catered by M&M Meats (hamburgers, hot dogs, juice and chips), lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There will be kids activities including face painting, balloons and tattoos, colouring centre and treat bags, and family activities like three-legged races, potato sac races, and scavenger hunt.   • Red Deer, AB - 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (McKenzie Trails Picnic Shelter)

Family picnic: lunch will be served including Subway sandwiches, beverages and roasting marshmallows. Information will be available regarding the recent cuts to federal public services and how we are ALL affected by the cuts. Presented by PSAC Local 30074.
