New this year - the Mini Union School for Officers from Regional Committees, Area and Regional Councils and Locals.  This new event, which will run Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and all day Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., will provide skill development through topics such as chairing and facilitating meetings, and preparing agendas, meeting minutes, budgets and financial reports.  Participants will also explore ways to engage new members, and project ideas for 2014 and 2015.

This one day course will prepare new delegates to increase their participation at union conventions.  Participants will learn about convention committees, the roles and responsibilities of delegates, and the rules of order.  The course includes a mock meeting where participants will practice their convention skills.

This course examines the role of employers, unions, and workers in meeting the “Duty to Accommodate”. Participants will learn about legislative basis as well as the practical application of the duty to accommodate. The course will explore case law, and assess measures the union can actively promote to ensure a more accessible workplace for all.

 This two-day course for union stewards will develop participants’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in effectively solving problems at the workplace. A major portion of time will be spent on the relevant technical skills i.e. identifying, investigating, writing up, and presenting grievances.

This new one-day course is for any member who would like to know more about safe and healthy workplaces.  Participants will learn about the roles and responsibilities of workers, employers and unions, and discover the important events in the union’s struggle for health and safety in our workplaces.  We will explore ways that PSAC members can exercise their health and safety rights and make plans to bring ideas and information back to the Local Union at the workplace.

Deadline for resolutions to the Prairies Convention if March 5th, 2014 and most component conventions are up coming. Learn how to follow the appropriate process for submitting resolutions to convention, draft resolutions for convention and identify information to suppot your resolutions, and develop long-term strategies for obtaining support for convention resolutions.

This Friday night/Saturday course is the union’s key “introductory” education event. If you have wondered what it means to be a union member, how the PSAC works, and what happens to your dues dollars, then Talking Union Basics provides answers to these questions. The course also introduces the collective agreement, your employee rights and your rights as a member of the PSAC. You will learn about the many opportunities to be active in the union and ways you can make a contribution to building strong locals in the Prairie region.
