The PSAC Advanced Representation Training for Stewards is a four-day, advanced course, with a focus on representation. You will look at various routes for engaging members in helping them to resolve workplace issues. You will deepen your knowledge of the processes and legal framework of grievance handling and what is needed from you to support the PSAC’s representation of members at all levels of the grievance process, up to arbitration/adjudication.

This two-day course for union stewards will develop participants’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in effectively solving problems at the workplace prior to filing grievances.  A major portion of time will be spent on the relevant technical skills i.e. identifying, investigating, writing up, and presenting grievances.

This course is for PSAC union representatives (stewards, local officers, etc.) who have: training on and experience with representing members generally; and training on and experience with presenting a grievance during a hearing/meeting with the employer.

This workshop is for members who are interested in exploring their right to vote, increase their awareness on the importance of making informed voting choices, and increasing their confidence in participating more in the electoral process before, during and after elections.   A light dinner will be served, therefore attendance and dietary restrictions must be confirmed to ensure enough food is ordered.    Dates:

This course was cancelled due to low enrollment.    The course objective is to know the impacts of the Conservative government’s policies and actions; to be able to have political conversations about the upcoming election with members and the public; develop skills and confidence in having door-to-door conversations in targeted ridings, and in written communications (letters to the editor; blog responses, etc.)

The workshop will provide skills for political activists, election mobilization strategies that can be used by PSAC groups (i.e. Locals, Area Councils, Regional Women's Committees, Human Rights Committees, or geographic groups, etc.) to build a mobilization strategy for members. Having political conversations continues the important theme of one-to-one conversations. After the course, these skills can be put to use in the Local, or in the participant's neighborhood, community, etc. August 26, 2015 - Wednesday 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

This course examines the role of employers, unions, and workers in meeting the “Duty to Accommodate”. Participants will learn about legislative basis as well as the practical application of the duty to accommodate. The course will explore case law, and assess measures the union can actively promote to ensure a more accessible workplace for all. New dates will be posted once chosen This new one-day course is for any member who would like to know more about safe and healthy workplaces.  Participants will learn about the roles and responsibilities of workers, employers and unions, and discover the important events in the union’s struggle for health and safety in our workplaces.  We will explore ways that PSAC members can exercise their health and safety rights and make plans to bring ideas and information back to the Local Union at the workplace.
