During this evening workshop, participants will learn more about the process of submitting resolutions to PSAC conferences and conventions. We will explore how to word a resolution for successful debate, and how to build support for the changes you want to see in your union. Please identify any dietary restrictions as a light meal will provided.  Please note that this workshop is only available to members who reside within 100 kms of the Edmonton Area.

This workshop will explain why domestic violence is a workplace issue and what the union can do to support members who experience domestic violence; identify the role and responsibilities of the parties with regards to supporting someone in the workplace who experiences domestic violence; recognize signs, in the workplace, that someone might be experiencing domestic violence; support and refer members who experience domestic violence; and deliver a short awareness presentation to members,  on domestic violence in the workplace.

This workshop will help Stewards and Union Reps to recognize when conflict emerges. Participants will develop an understanding of how to strategically deal with conflict as a Steward or Union Rep. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice your skills dealing with conflict

This two-day course for union stewards will develop participants’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in effectively solving problems at the workplace. A major portion of time will be spent on the relevant technical skills i.e. identifying, investigating, writing up, and presenting grievances.

Participants will explore conflict resolution tips that can be used in the workplace and will practice holding meetings, interviewing complainants and documenting important facts. Participants will also brainstorm ways to deal with workplace problems outside the grievance procedure.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to determine what the role of a shop steward is and is not, list the legal protections and rights that shop stewards have, understand where shop stewards fit, structurally, in our union and identify in what ways a shop steward can help build a strong worksite.

This course is the union’s key “introductory” education event. If you have wondered what it means to be a union member, how PSAC works, and what happens to your dues dollars, then Talking Union Basics provides answers to these questions. The course also introduces the collective agreement, your employee rights and your rights as a member of the PSAC. You will learn about the many opportunities to be active in the union and ways you can make a contribution to building strong locals in the Prairie region.

  This one-day course is open to all PSAC members who identify as a woman. This educational opportunity will bring together PSAC women to discuss the history of women’s work and the labour movement, celebrate the gains made in our journey towards equality, develop strategies for the work still to be done and make friends, create allies and build solidarity!

Learn and practice the skills necessary to meet with elected officials and deliver your message to them. Face to face meetings with MPs, MPPs, and city counsellors are the most effective way of creating change. By the end of this one-day course, participants will: Develop an understanding of the importance of lobbying as a means of influencing the political system; Practice lobbying skills through group roleplay. **** Please note this training is only open to members who live within 100 kms of the Edmonton Regional Office****
