United Way of Saskatoon salutes Prairies REVP

In June, the United Way of Saskatoon and Area said goodbye and thank you to Marianne Hladun for six years of service to the organization and our community. Marianne served as a United Way board member from June 2006 – June 2012. We were not able to thank Marianne publicly at the United Way AGM as she was already hard at work in Winnipeg as Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region.
Lessons from Quebec's student strike

An ambitious seven-day, seven-city tour addressing the six-month student strike in Quebec, visited London, Toronto, Saskatoon, and Regina, before passing through Winnipeg on October 3.The special tour addressed what happened in Quebec, but also how the hard-earned lessons of the longest student strike in Canadian history can be applied to organizing across the country.

Honouring missing and murdered Aboriginal women

Each year on October 4, communities across Canada come together to honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls. As we do so, we remember the lives of sisters, daughters, mothers and grandmothers tragically taken from us. We also support grieving families and provide opportunities for healing.

Manitoba Career Transition Cafe

Workers at Aboriginal non-profit organization join PSAC

All employees at the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development (CAHRD) will now benefit from improved working conditions and free collective bargaining, as nearly 100 workers, ranging from employment counselors to childcare workers and teachers, join the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).
Day of Action Regional Report

On September 15 the Public Service Alliance of Canada held a National Day of Action from coast to coast to coast. PSAC members, community advocates and concerned citizens alike gathered together at various events across the Prairies to celebrate the public services they value most. These services are being jeopardized or damaged by the ongoing federal cuts. We are ALL affected by the cuts to federal services and jobs imposed by the Conservative government.
Winnipeg Day of Action (Sept. 15)

PSAC members in Winnipeg invited the community to an event at Memorial Park with local entertainment, face painting for the kids and free refreshments. Attendees signed the 100 ft. banner to let Steven Harper know how cuts to public services have affected our communities. Robyn Benson, PSAC National President, spoke on the impact of the cuts and the importance of protecting public services for all Canadians. Click any photo to view the entire Winnipeg Day of Action photo album.
