REVP Letter: National Day of Mourning

Dear Sisters & Brothers

For the National Day of Mourning on April 28, we honour our fallen Brothers and Sisters who have lost their lives or been injured on the job.

Statistics show that over 1,000 Canadian workers die each year due to workplace health and safety hazards –– that’s four workers each day. These numbers are unacceptably high and April 28 is a grim reminder that we must demand more from our employers.

Together in our workplaces throughout the country we must enforce health and safety regulations and hold our employers accountable for keeping us safe. We should also call on our government to enact new regulations that address serious workplace issues like violence, exposure to toxins and carcinogens, repetitive stress injuries, ergonomic injuries, harassment and stress.

All injuries and deaths in the workplace are preventable.
