In the next video from the award-winning Prairies Video Project, members share stories about how their union has helped them in the workplace.Whether it be working with members through the grievance process or assisting with the duty to accommodate, PSAC members know their union is there for them.Michelle Hazzard (USGE) is one of the members who appears in this video. She shares her struggle with harrassment in the workplace and how her union helped her.

On April 30, 2014, the PSAC Prairie Region hosted a live and interactive telephone town hall. Nearly 4,000 members throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba participated in the one-hour call to discuss important information about the attack on sick leave.

PSAC collected several awards at the Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM) Awards this past weekend, with the PSAC Prairie Region taking home the award for "Best narrative video, or video series documentary" and honourable mention for "Best photograph".

To recognize National Day of Mourning, we're releasing a special edition of the Prairies Video Project to highlight asbestos awareness.This video highlights the work of the Saskatchewan Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (SADAO), a non-profit organization co-founded by former PSAC member Howard Willems, and the development of Bill 604, "Howard's Law".

Did you receive an email notice recently promoting the Workplace Wellness and Productivity Strategy for federal government employees? This notice promoted a new employer strategy for managing sick leave and long-term disability across the federal public service, but it failed to mention one very important fact: this new strategy has not been negotiated with your union.

The federal government wants to introduce a short-term disability plan, to replace the current sick leave system, with the new system to be in place by July 2016.Any concession is a threat to our hard-earned rights and benefits and will undoubtedly set the tone for future bargaining with separate employers and those that are provincially and municipally legislated. In other words, we are all affected by concession bargaining.

April 28 is recognized as the National Day of Mourning. On this day, we are reminded of the grim statistics of workers who have died or been injured in Canadian workplaces. Still many more have been discouraged or prevented from claiming compensation they were entitled to.  We also remember the fact that these numbers are real people with real families.
