(Calgary) November 1, 2013 – As the Conservative Party of Canada gather for their 2013 Policy Convention, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is calling on the Conservative government to stop the attack on workers and withdraw changes to federal labour legislation from the Budget Implementation Act that would gut collective bargaining rights and health and safety protections.

These Members of Parliament are veterans themselves or have ridings close to the Veterans Affairs offices the government wants to shut down. Send them an email urging them to publicly oppose the closure of Veterans Affairs offices.

The federal government is betraying Canada’s veterans by shutting down nine Veterans Affairs offices in Charlottetown, Corner Brook, Sydney, Thunder Bay, Windsor, Brandon, Saskatoon, Prince George and Kelowna. This means our veterans will have a harder time getting the support and services they need and deserve.

Canada’s veterans will be in Ottawa Thursday, October 3rd to talk about why the federal government must not close Veterans Affairs offices they rely on.WATCH THE LAUNCH LIVE at 8:00 am PST on Thursday, October 3.The office in Prince George has already been shut down and the government says that by February, offices in Corner Brook, Charlottetown, Sydney, Thunder Bay, Windsor, Brandon, Saskatoon and Kelowna will be closing their doors to veterans too.

This morning we released a video titled "The Value of Unions" with PSAC Prairies members telling their stories about the importance of unions within their families and their communities.The video is the first full-length video in a series of videos to be released at varying intervals over the next year under a variety of themes. The footage was collected from interviews with PSAC Prairies members over the summer, asking them about their union experiences and memories
