Prairies on Patrol

The recent labour disputes with CUPW and CAW have shown frightening new trends in bargaining that include a relentless attack on our retirement security and hard-earned health benefits, and a government that is all too willing to introduce back-to-work legislation if their corporate friends are inconvenienced.

We need to shape public opinion on the impact of cuts to public services on Canadian families and communities, and mobilize our members for what will be a long fight. But we need your help. Let us know about cuts in your workplaces and how they are affecting you and your coworkers. Together, the Prairie Region is on patrol for government cuts and injustices in the workplace.

Urgent: Stop Bill C-377

Bill C-377, a private member's bill that directly attacks unions by driving up operating costs unnecessarily, is moving ahead with full force and will go to a final vote next week on Wednesday, December 12. If passed, this senseless legislation would be detrimental to all working families and crush many smaller unions and labour organizations in the process, who will be unable to keep up with the expensive and onerous requirements.

Stephen Harper's Conservatives are determined to ram through Bill C-377, a private members' bill that will force every union to file intrusive financial reports that will be posted on a public website for every employer to see. We need your help now to stop this bill in its tracks!

CUPE Manitoba Town Hall Meetings on Employment Insurance

 CUPE Manitoba is hosting two Town Hall meetings on Employment Insurance, one in Winnipeg and one in Brandon.  Guest Speaker Neil Cohen, Director of the Community Unemployed Help Centre will walk us through the Employment Insurance system and outline resources available to unemployed Manitobans. Tony Clement & Merv Tweed receive their "Affected" letters

 In July, Treasury Board President Tony Clement made an appearance in Brandon, Manitoba where PSAC members handed him and Merv Tweed, Conservative MP for Brandon-Souris, their affected letters. Members also discussed their concerns regarding EI services leaving Manitoba and the issue of closing the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) in Saskatchewan.
