An attempt by Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino to quell growing outrage over VAC office closures appears to have backfired, leaving veterans even more determined to stop the closures.

On December 6 we recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, a time to honour the countless women throughout Canada and around the world who are victims of violence in their lives, including the 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal who were murdered in 1989 because they were women.

For the second video in our series, PSAC Prairies members share their past experiences using sick leave and how invaluable that benefit was to them and their families when faced with unexpected circumstances. Phrases such as "peace of mind" and "insurance policy" were conveyed as part of the discussion.

Please note we are holding elections for the vacant position of Young worker representative for the Prairie Region Council. The member seeking nomination are not required to have been a 2011 Convention Delegate but the members who nominate and second the nomination must have been a 2011 Convention delegate who self identified as a Young worker member. Young Worker Delegates of the 2011 PSAC Prairie Regional Triennial Convention will elect a Young Worker Representative to serve on the Prairie Regional Council for the remainder of the three-year term.

Nominations:

The 6th Triennial Convention of the PSAC Prairie Region will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the TCU Place beginning Friday, June 27, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. and concluding Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.

Veterans and the workers who serve them say it will be impossible for eight Client Service Agents to make up for the work of the 89 front line workers in Veterans Affairs offices slated for closure.
