Updates

After much delay on the part of the employer, Treasury Board and PSAC have finally signed collective agreements for the PA, EB, TC and SV bargaining units on June 14, 2017. This is the result of significant pressure from our union.

Due to a Phoenix pay system problem, members who ought to be in good standing have been rendered not in good standing because their dues have abruptly stopped (despite their continued employment). Unfortunately, it is impossible for Membership Administration to determine if dues have stopped due to a Phoenix glitch or if the member is on leave, retired, etc.

Area Councils, Locals and Regional Offices throughout the Prairie Region and across the country are calling the employer on their hypocrisy and standing up to let this government know that we refuse to play nice anymore. Instead of attending the employer-sponsored National Public Service Week events, we’re encouraging locals to hold their own events. Below is a list of the events being held throughout the Prairies.

In light of the continued failures of Treasury Board to fix the Phoenix Pay System, PSAC’s National Board of Directors has once again endorsed a boycott of National Public Service Week (NPSW) events for 2017. Started in 2012 as a protest of the reckless cuts to public services, the boycott continues this year in recognition of those burned by Phoenix.

We are currently seeking interested candidates to represent the more than 9,000 PSAC members across Alberta on the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) Executive Council.

The latest update on Phoenix, shows a large remaining backlog of cases. Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) provided the latest information on the public service pay system in a media teleconference on June 2.

“We are not surprised,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “It’s been almost 18 months since the government launched Phoenix and it feels like we are nowhere near the end of this mess.”
