Following the disastrous flooding in Alberta last week, there is now a massive, ongoing cleanup effort requiring thousands of volunteers to rebuild communities and repair damages to houses and personal property.
In an effort to coordinate PSAC members who have asked how they can help, we are organizing volunteer days to get out into the communities and provide support to the families and small businesses affected.
Most PSAC collective agreements provide for Volunteer Leave for a single period of up to 7.5 hours of leave with pay to work as a volunteer for a charitable or community organization or activity. Additionally, agreements often provide for Personal Leave for a single period of up to 7.5 hours of leave with pay for reasons of a personal nature.
Members are encouraged to use their volunteer or personal days to help out if available, and to reques that the employer match their volunteer day with additional paid time to provide support. Please e-mail Alberta-Solidarity-Fund@psac-afpc.com to sign up for one of the upcoming volunteer days.
Additionally, donations from Components, Regional Offices, Area Councils, Committees, and Locals across the country can be made to the PSAC Social Justice Fund’s Southern Alberta Solidarity Fund.
To provide assistance, please send donations made payable to the PSAC Social Justice Fund to:
