It's been a busy year, but even tireless activists need a break. I encourage you to make the most of what's left of 2012 by spending time with loved ones and making time for rest and relaxation. On behalf of the Prairie Region Council, I wish you and your family all the best this holiday season. I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year.

Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 to acknowledge the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. This is an exciting opportunity for us to recognize the work of human rights advocates around the world, and right here within our union.

Each year on December 6, National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we honour the memory of the 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal who were murdered in 1989 because they were women.

The International Day for Persons with Disabilities is observed on December 3 each year to promote awareness of disability issues and the abilities of people with disability.

November 20 is the annual Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a day dedicated to transgender, transsexual, and two-spirit individuals who have been killed or have been victims of violent attacks based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.
