Regional Convention

Democracy is one of the underlying and fundamental principles of the union. Conventions are gatherings of delegates who represent the interest of the members of the union.  At Conventions, delegates make decisions on a variety of issues and set the path for the union’s future actions.

Conventions are an opportunity for members from across the country to meet and reflect on the union’s accomplishments, decide on changes that may be needed and continue the work of building a strong national union.

At Conventions:

  • Political leaders are elected.
  • The budget is reviewed and approved and the dues rate set.
  • Amendments to the Constitution are made.
  • Policy papers (reports on issues facing the union and the union’s plan for addressing those issues) are discussed, possibly amended and approved.
  • Resolutions (written recommendations submitted by Locals, Components, regional convention and national conferences) are debated and voted on.

 As a result of a decision by delegates at the 2003 PSAC Convention, Regional Executive Vice-Presidents and their Alternates are elected in the regions, at their respective Regional Conventions.

 Enclosed, please find the guidelines and nomination form for the Prairie Voice Award. This award is presented to members who have provided exemplary service or have been role models and mentors for our members.

 We have reserved a large block of rooms for members at the Fairmont Winnipeg, but space is quickly running out. Since all members are responsible for booking their own accommodations, I would encourage everyone to book promptly to secure rooms at the Convention hotel.

 In order to ensure all members have adequate time to submit their resolutions for the 2011 Prairie Region Convention, we have extended the deadline by two weeks to Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

The deadline to submit credentials to be considered for subsidies has now passed. Although we will continue to accept credentials, no subsidy will be offered to anyone who registers after the January 26 cut off.

 The 5th Triennial Convention of the PSAC Prairie Region will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel beginning Friday, June 10, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. and concluding Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 12:30 p.m.Each delegate, alternate, observer and guest must complete the credential forms below.  All completed credential forms for delegates and alternates must be signed by the President or another officer of the Local/Branch; Area Council; the Chair or Secretary of the Equity/Human Rights Committee; the Chair or Secretary of the Regional Women’s Committee.

  As you are aware the Prairie Region Convention will be held in Winnipeg from June 10 12, 2011 at The Fairmont. We are looking for individuals who would be willing to be part of the Host Committee.

 It is now less than a year until the 2011 Prairie Region Convention and plans are well under way. Recently, however, we ran into several challenging obstacles that have forced us to make substantial changes to our original plans.
