Stephen Harper's Conservatives are determined to ram through Bill C-377, a private members' bill that will force every union to file intrusive financial reports that will be posted on a public website for every employer to see. We need your help now to stop this bill in its tracks!

Employment Insurance is just that - insurance that you pay for, every paycheck. When you lose your job through no fault of your own, you should have access to the benefits you paid for! But fewer than 4 in 10 unemployed Canadians qualify for EI benefits. Stephen Harper's changes to EI are hurting Canadians just when they need Employment Insurance the most. Is that fair?

On September 26, at the moment of the Motion 312 vote, we were astonished to notice that the Minister responsible for the Status of Women, the Honorable Rona Ambrose, took position to strike a committee that would have reviewed the fetus legal status in the light of scientific advances. Without any doubt, this committee would have reopened the abortion debate  (despite the Conservative Party’s promise not to reopen it).

The Public Service Alliance of Canada stands behind Saskatchewan’s Official Opposition as they prepare to introduce a private member’s bill to create an asbestos registry of all public buildings under the Public Health Act.

On October 25, 2012, members of the NDP caucus will be wearing a purple ribbon in solidarity with public sector workers affected by the recent cuts to jobs and public services. This initiative originated with a PSAC member, and we encourage Prairies members to join in and wear a purple ribbon to demonstrate that we are all affected by the cuts, and we oppose them.

The Winnipeg Labour Council Policy and Educational Conference entitled "Political Action Boot Camp" is only one month away. This conference is a very important training and networking opportunity for labour and community activists.Attendees will receive a crash course in three areas of political necessity: Community organizing; Effective Lobbying; and Election Campaigning. These areas are key to having the labour movement be successful in political endeavours.

The proposed sale of community pastures in Saskatchewan is supported by virtually no one in the province or the country and today’s announcement by the provincial government raises more questions than it provides answers, according to the Agriculture Union – PSAC which has launched a campaign to protect the prairie grasslands in question.

On October 30th, 2012, CUHC, PILC of LAM, CFCS, Social Planning Council of Winnipeg, and New Directions will be holding a second full-day conference titled “Community Advocates Conference – Capacity Building for Advocates.” This conference will provide participants with similar tools as the conference held in 2009 and will help build skills and competencies for those interested in various forms of advocacy.
