Howard Willem, long-time PSAC member and activistm, was diagnosed with with mesothelioma (an asbestos related cancer of the lungs) and is leading the fight for safe workplaces and the banning of asbestos exportation in Canada.

PSAC members from across the prairies kept a close eye on the federal budget on March 29 to assess the impact it will have on working families in our communities and services Canadians rely on.

The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada has launched an important campaign against a Motion in the House of Commons that was tabled by a Conservative MP. This Motion calls for the creation of a Parliamentary Commission that would examine when a fetus becomes a “human being”.

The Harper government’s attack on the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) is not about market freedom. It’s not about offering a choice to farmers. It is, quite simply, an illegal and undemocratic attack on collective bargaining.

We are just days away from the Conservative’s first majority government budget. There is much anticipation about what will and won’t be in the budget. PSAC members in the federal public service are particularly concerned given the vague nature of the Finance Minister’s responses as to where the cuts will be and how deep they will go.
