 Dear Brothers and Sisters:As you may already know, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will be unveiling the 2011 Federal Budget tomorrow, Tues. Mar. 22, at 4:00 p.m. EST.It is widely suspected that the Harper government is looking to combat the $56-billion deficit with massive job cuts, something myself and the PSAC proper vehemently denounce. We fight everyday to protect our public services and, Brothers and Sisters, that battle wages on.

On March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we will unite within our union and around the world to stand up against racism and reaffirm our dedication to equal rights for everyone.

 In order to ensure all members have adequate time to submit their resolutions for the 2011 Prairie Region Convention, we have extended the deadline by two weeks to Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

This past year has seen great achievements and victories for Sisters in our union and on March 8, 2011, we stand together with millions around the world to celebrate International Women’s Day and inspire women.

The deadline to submit credentials to be considered for subsidies has now passed. Although we will continue to accept credentials, no subsidy will be offered to anyone who registers after the January 26 cut off.

Each year throughout February, Canadians explore and learn about the history of our Black Brothers and Sisters in honour of Black History Month – an annual, month-long observation to promote awareness to the general public.

Sister Robyn Benson writes to Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner condemning her decisino to no support Bill-C389, the important piece of legislation that would give transgender and transsexual people protection under federal human rights and hate crime legislation.

Since the beginning, this union has been at the forefront in promoting employment equity, pay equity and harassment-free workplaces and has been involved in the development and review of human rights legislation and jurisprudence. On December 10, 2010, we celebrate these achievements and those of all human rights activists for The United Nations’ Human Rights Day.

Nearly one in ten people are living with a disability and on December 3, 2010 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities – we stand in solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters to advocate for their right to live and work in society with dignity, autonomy and equality.

On December 6, 1989, 14 women were murdered at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because they were women. Now, more than 20 years later, we honour these victims and their families and remind ourselves that we must continue to stand up in protest of violence against women and take action to eliminate it from our society.
