Marianne Hladun has served as Prairies Regional Executive Vice-President for the past five years. For over 20 years, Hladun’s comprehensive union experience has spanned various positions including President of Agriculture Union Local 40022.

She was elected North Saskatchewan Geographical Rep on the Prairie Region Council in 1999 and Alternate REVP in 2008 and 2011. She was National Human Rights Director for Agriculture Union for nine years, and Regional Vice-President, North Saskatchewan for one.

Previously elected three times to the CFIA bargaining team, Hladun is now responsible for 32 regional bargaining units, as well as being assigned to the PA bargaining team. She also leads Political Action and Campaigns and shares the Education AEC portfolios.

Hladun is an Alliance Facilitator, a graduate of PSAC’s Union Development Program and CLC’s Labour College of Canada, and holds a Labour Studies diploma from the University of Saskatchewan. She was Vice-President to the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour for 10 years and sat on committees including Education and Collective Bargaining/Labour Legislation. She also chaired Political Strategy for four years.

With a strong committment to community and social justice, Hladun has volunteered with the United Way of Saskatoon as Labour Representative on the Board of Directors for two terms, as well as the Saskatchewan Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization. She is also involved with NASHI, a charity to divert youth from human trafficking and has participated in five humanitarian missions to Ukraine with the charity.

Since 1986, Hladun has worked for Correctional Services of Canada, Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration and Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

  It has now been two months since the workers at the Salvation Army's Booth Centre shelter in Ottawa walked off the job to protest poverty wages. Despite saying that it aims to fight poverty, the Salvation Army in Canada pays many of its workers less than the living wage. In the case of Ottawa, the living wage has been set by ACORN Canada at $13.50 per hour.

The National Day of Action was a huge success with hundreds of members from worksites all over the Prairie Region standing together in solidarity over the noon hour.I'd like to thank all of the locals for participating in this important action. I so admire the courage and persistence of all of the Sisters and Brothers who wore a sticker, waved a flag, or put on a black arm band, and collectively rallied together to take a stand against the damaging austerity agenda of this government.

 Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada are taking to the streets, throughout the Prairies and across Canada, in protest of the Conservative government’s austerity agenda. At noon today, March 1, PSAC members will stand together in front of their workplaces to rally against the slashing of public services.

We are well into our new national public engagement campaign, the Third Choice Campaign, and public reception has been very positive to date. The first two films have accumulated more than 86,000 views on YouTube and our Facebook community continues to grow. We've also just released our latest video on search and rescue.

 In 1995, the Government of Canada officially declared February Black History Month throughout the country. Since then, throughout the month of February, we recognize the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians, and reflect on the issues and difficulties that continue to be faced today within the Black community.
