PSAC members are sick and tired of this government’s disrespect for them and for the vital services that they provide to Canadians. On October 30, 2014, PSAC members throughout the Prairies and across the country held events to speak out against concessions and promote healthier, more productive workplaces that delivers high quality public services.

The News Advertiser, a community paper based in Vegreville, Alberta, published an article on October 13, 2014 criticizing PSAC's bargaining proposal and claiming federal government employees could soon have more days off than days on the job. PSAC Prairies Regional Executive Vice-President Marianne Hladun fired back at the offensive and inaccurate piece.

The new CFIA collective agreement is finally in effect. It was formally signed by PSAC and the agency on October 8, 2014. CFIA now has up to 90 days to implement the changes to the collective agreement, including adjusting rates of pay and issuing retroactive pay.

Our union spent the week of September 9th in negotiations with Treasury Board. We were united in our mission to improve working conditions and reject attacks on crucial benefits such as sick leave.

During negotiations with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, federal government negotiators tabled a proposal that would gut the sick leave provisions for employees of the federal public service.

For months, Treasury Board President Tony Clement has been telling the media that his bargaining priority is to take away our sick leave provisions. But he didn’t bring his proposal to the table.

This week, PSAC begins the formal bargaining process with Treasury Board, negotiations that will impact more than 90,000 members.

We will be hosting two webinars on sick leave and collective bargaining for members who live outside the regional office areas or were unable to attend one of the multi-local meetings held across the region in May and June.All members from all employers are invited to attend and provide feedback in the ongoing fight back and share ideas for what we can do together to combat concessions and cuts to public services.

In the next video from the award-winning Prairies Video Project, members share stories about the fight for maternity leave/family leave in the 1980 CR strike and how their victory has since benefitted countless families.Sandra Clarke, PSAC/UTE member since 1969, was on the line for that strike. In the video she recalls what it was like before the union sisters fought for leave provisions.

PSAC is calling on our members to boycott National Public Service Week for the third year. It’s important that we do not participate in events that claim to “honour” workers while simultaneously slashing jobs and forcing us into bargaining.
