Bargaining

On October 31, 2012, members from UTE Local 40022 in Regina held a plantgate in support of their bargaining team, the same day the current contract expired.Members were given ID/badge holders with inserts saying "Our Contract, Our Future." Along with the ID holders, the Regina Local provided all CRA employees in the Regina Tax Office with chocolate bars. The chocolate and ID holders were very well received by members.The photo below shows two members hard at work, including local treasurer Allan Saccary (left) and shop steward Lawrence Larkin (right).

On July 19 and 20, your bargaining team exchanged proposals with the employer, and began the process of obtaining you a collective agreement to improve your working conditions.The tone has improved significantly relative to our last time at the table. We had civil discussion about how to proceed, and we have finally begun the negotiations on the issues that matter to you in your workplace.However, we are also aware of the long road ahead of us to get you a collective agreement. We will be working hard to get you the best collective agreement that we can.

Your bargaining team met with the employer to begin negotiations for your first collective agreement. We had prepared proposals on many issues to get negotiations started. We had intended to exchange proposals with the employer to start the process on June 29th.Your team wanted to get things started on a good note.

On June 18, 2012, Border Services Officers in Coutts, Alberta wore green “I Support My Bargaining Team” shoelaces, as well as “Security OUR Priority” stickers as a show of solidarity for the CIU bargaining team going back to the bargaining table from June 18 - 20.

  It has now been two months since the workers at the Salvation Army's Booth Centre shelter in Ottawa walked off the job to protest poverty wages. Despite saying that it aims to fight poverty, the Salvation Army in Canada pays many of its workers less than the living wage. In the case of Ottawa, the living wage has been set by ACORN Canada at $13.50 per hour.

PSAC negotiators reached a tentative agreement with NAV Canada January 27. The 300 PSAC members covered by the agreement will vote on the collective agreement between February 6 and February 23, 2012.

The FB bargaining team met with Treasury Board and CBSA representatives in Ottawa the week of October 3 to continue negotiations for a new contract

PSAC's bargaining team used the opening session with Parks Canada, Sept. 20-22 to emphasize members concerns over contracting out, the use of contractors and volunteers and the student issue.
