The two largest federal public service unions are charging Treasury Board and a number of departments with failing to set up the system that will assist employees whose jobs are disappearing to stay in the public service.

Employees at the Regina Ramada Hotel, members of UNITE HERE Local 41, have been on strike since Monday, June 4, 2012 after efforts to negotiate a reasonable agreement were unsuccessful.

Sister Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region, wrote a letter to Terry Groff, General Manager at the Regina Ramada Hotel, days before the strike urging him to return to the bargaining table with a fair and equitable offer for these workers.

Dear Sisters & Brothers,

Each year on June 21, National Aboriginal Day, we pay tribute to the cultures and achievements of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada.

June 21 is National Aboriginal Day. There are various activities and ceremonies happening throughout the Prairies and in Canada.  For instance on June 21, The Forks in Winnipeg has sunrise and sunset ceremonies and well as day long activities and entertainment.

The PSAC Prairie Region is proud to welcome research assistants, senior research assistants and research associates employed at the University of Winnipeg after the Manitoba Labour Board certified PSAC as their bargaining agent on May 31, 2012.

Gregory Furmaniuk, a student organizer on the eight-month long organizing campaign, says the victory means empowerment, respect and fairness for workers.

Dear Sisters and Brothers

Your Prairie Region Council Health and Safety Committee (Brothers Clint Wirth, Manitoba and Alec Goertzen, Alberta along with Sister Nancy Johnson, Saskatchewan) have been working hard on plans for your upcoming Regional Health and Safety Conference.  Along with your Regional Executive Vice-President (Sister Marianne Hladun) and your Regional Representative Health and Safety (Brother Bruce Campbell), we are happy to report on progress in this endeavour.
